Surgical Services for Your Pet

When your pet needs surgery, you can count on the staff at Plains Animal Hospital. Backed by over 50 years of experience, our veterinarians have the skills to perform a variety of pet surgeries. We offer a wide range of surgical services, from elective surgeries like spaying and neutering to emergency surgical care. Whatever your pet requires, you'll know that we have the training and the tools to take care of them with compassion, as if they were our own!

Preparing Your Pet for a Comfortable Surgery Experience

When your pet needs surgery, you want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible. At Plains Animal Hospital, we're here to provide you and your companion the best in quality care.

We'll perform a pre-surgical exam to ensure we detect any possible adverse conditions that might affect your pet. Age-appropriate blood tests are also performed to see if there are any other problems that aren't obvious. Pre-anesthetic blood tests help to make sure your pet is a good candidate for surgery.

While most surgery is uneventful, emergencies sometimes occur. That's why your pet will be monitored by both a technician and the veterinarian during surgery. Detecting problems early will help us intervene and correct them.

We employ heart (ECG), blood pressure, and oxygen monitors to allow us to track your pet's heart rate and rhythm, as well as the amount of oxygen in the blood, to ensure that their values are normal. Every animal receives an IV catheter with fluids administered during anesthesia and surgery. These fluids will help keep blood pressure stable and aid in elimination of the medication through the kidneys.

During the surgical procedure, we call also perform other minor procedures that would normally require anesthetic or otherwise be uncomfortable for your pet. The might include dental procedures, ear cleaning, nail trimming, or microchip implantation (a common pet ID device).

When you drop off your pet for surgery, talk to our surgical nurse if you would like any additional services performed, including:
  • Microchip implantation
  • Hind dewclaw removal
  • Dental scale and polish
  • Tumor removal
  • Etc.
Many other surgical procedures are also available. Call our office for more information!

When our dog was very sick they took care of her so well. They were quick and calm. Not high pressure and they treated us really well.
