What to Expect From Acupuncture for Your Pet

At Plains Animal Hospital, we can employ acupuncture as either primary treatment or to support a more traditional approach.

A treatment that works for one animal may have a completely different effect on another. We'll review the specifics of your pet's condition, assess his or her medical history, and conduct a physical exam. Then we'll be able to make recommendations regarding acupuncture, herbal therapy, and food therapy.

At Plains Animal Hospital, all acupuncture treatments are performed by veterinarians who are certified in veterinary acupuncture. Then the length and frequency of sessions will vary depending on the needs of your pet.

Different pets may have different responses to acupuncture. Some show no sensitivity, while others may experience brief discomfort when the needles are inserted. This is because some acupuncture points are more sensitive than others. Once the needles are in place, your pet should feel no pain or soreness, and may even become relaxed or sleepy.

All the doctors and techs are wonderful! I've been bringing my pets here for 20 years or more and they have been there for my kittens and puppies from babes to their final moments! Today they fit me in to see my puppy who was suffering with a hurt leg! Thank you so much for what you all do!
