The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center provides pet owners with 24/7 assistance seven days a week pertaining to toxic chemicals and dangerous plants, products, or substances.

Situations Requiring Emergency Care

Every animal is unique, but if your pet is exhibiting these symptoms, they might be in serious distress and are in need of emergency care. Contact your veterinarian or contact us immediately if your pet is experiencing any of these problems:
  • Pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Major trauma falls, hit-by-cars, large wounds, broken bones
  • Penetrating wounds anywhere (but especially in the chest or abdomen)
  • Seizure activity
  • Staggering, stumbling, head-tilted, sudden blindness
  • Lameness or non-weight bearing on any limb
  • Ingestion of poison or foreign material
  • Inflammation, swelling or other irritation to the eye(s)
  • Severe hives or severe itching
  • Bleeding that does not stop from any part of the body
  • Bloated, distended, swollen, or painful abdomen
  • Inability to urinate or defecate
  • Inability to deliver puppies or kittens
  • Loss of balance or consciousness
  • Vomiting or diarrhea with blood or violent episodes

All the doctors and techs are wonderful! I've been bringing my pets here for 20 years or more and they have been there for my kittens and puppies from babes to their final moments! Today they fit me in to see my puppy who was suffering with a hurt leg! Thank you so much for what you all do!
